What is a Christmas Market?

A Christmas market is a street market which celebrates the traditional sights, sounds and scents of Christmas and is staged during the weeks leading up to Christmas. These markets originated in Germany, beginning in the early 1400’s, and are now being held in countries all over the world.

Held in the historic Victorian-era Distillery district, this beguiling European style outdoor street fair includes a main stage with ongoing entertainment of children’s choirs, dance workshops, and more. Be sure to check out the open-air beer gardens serving warm mulled wine, perfect on a chilly winter’s night. Vendors sell unique holiday gifts, so get some shopping done while the kids visit with Santa Claus. Take a ride on the Ferris wheel or find Santa’s house in the Fairy Tale Forest Maze. For parking you’ll find surrounding fee-based lots as well as valet parking for $20 off Parliament Street.

The Christmas Market has a unique old time feel. Vendors from around the area bring there treasures for all to see and purchase. Pick up some unique tree ornaments, or have a hot drink to warm up your hands. The majority of the vendor stalls are all designed to look like old maple sugar shacks. The lights and decor are kept very traditional. It almost makes you feel like you have stepped into a time warp and are wandering the streets of an old European city. Classic red, green and gold adorn the streets, and the Christmas trees throughout the roads.
